After over five years the old village website was beginning to show signs of age and therefore has undergone a facelift and been remodelled.  More will be added in time but your suggestions for inclusion or changes, polite only please, would be appreciated.

Thanks again to those whose contributions have made the site possible.

It appears that by the wonder, if that is the right expression, of modern science people can still find pages from the old website even though it has not been published for a few years.  This is a quirk of the internet where pages have been cached (saved) by the various search engines and still exist somewhere in the cyber-space.

 

postheadericon About Ettington

Ettington lies between the junction of the A422 and the A429 to the West and the junction of the A422 with the 'Fosse Way' to the East. The village is believed to have been a Saxon settlement as well as a Roman encampment. The Shirley Family were recorded as Lords of the Manor in the Domesday Book. There were Quaker Meetings in 1664 and the Meeting House, built in 1684, still remains. The mention of a Parish Priest in the Domesday Book indicates that the Holy Trinity Church existed at that time and it was restored in 1825.

Dr William Croft, composer of sacred music and later the organist at Westminster Abbey was born in Ettington in 1677.

Ettington was formerly known as 'Eatington' and this name is still used in some maps, notably Microsoft Auto Route.

The village now has a thriving school, church and a new Community Centre, which replaces the old village hall.

The village has seen considerable growth in housing since 1998 and new population figures will probably show an increase to almost 2000.
